The Kyosho OT-268 sprue has been made available for the new 2022 Optima Mid re-release.
The bumper
While the bumper is an almost an exact replica, we should remember that the moulds for the 2022 Optima Mid were completely redesigned, so there are slight changes as pictured below. The old bumper is slightly thinner, slightly higher and with a slight change in curvature.
Once installed:
The wing stay
100% compatible with the old chassis, the new OT-268 wing stay is quite different from the old style OT-99 and of course the UMW-1. Unfortunately, the location of the holes in your wing will need adapting against the old OT-99. In the new mount you will use screws to mount the wing instead of body pins.
OT-268 sides curve outwards and make room for a center spacer with holes for mounting the wing using screws.
OT-268 mounts in exactly the same way as the OT-99
OT-268 wing stay is quite a chunky piece when put together. The front flat head screw is a pivot, the rear bind screw is used to change the wing angle.
OT-268 comes with 2 spacers. To change the height of the wing, you will have to use none, or one of the 2 spacers. I find it a bit more fiddly to change the wing height.
OT-99, UMW-1 and RD-28. You notice the different ways of changing the wing height (OT-99 only) and angle (OT-99 and UMW-11) while the RD-28 (featured on for example the Kyosho Alpha) is a fixed setup.
Positioning of the wing holes is about the same between the UMW-1 and OT-268, but still slightly narrower. The old OT-99 hole spacing is quite a bit narrower.
