The Kyosho LA-34 parts bag contains the 3 parts of the belt cover that runs across the chassis of the Lazer ZX, offering a guide for the belt and a cover to keep debris out of the belt drive system.
- Triangular structure
- Top cover
- Bottom cover
While the structure offers some extra rigidity to the car, its main purpose was to keep dust, dirt and stones out of the belt system, which could be dragged into the gearbox. However, while it did a great job keeping the belt in check on eg. high performance low turn motors, the result was quite the opposite to its other purpose. When any foreign objects did find their way into the cover, they couldn’t get out as easily and were in fact dragged into the gearboxes rather than being catapulted away. Many racers chose to getting rid of this ‘spine’ along the chassis.
The later ZX-R version did away with this construction and featured an open belt drive. The ‘Sport’ edition later added a short belt guide (LA-46) to the front belt.
